PROGRAMS

Families in Transition of West Georgia, Inc. is a nonprofit organization in Douglas County, Georgia.  We offer several programs to meet the needs of youth and families.  Program focus areas include Evidence Based Programming (EBPs), LINK (Linking, Integrating, and Networking for Kids), Mentoring Programs, and support to our local Family Dependency Treatment Court (FDTC).
Evidence Based Programming:

Evidence Based Programming- The evidence-based programming movement is one of the most significant developments to occur in criminal and juvenile justice in recent years. Programs must be delivered with fidelity to program model. EBPs are effective at preventing/reducing crime and they provide a sound return on taxpayer and donor investment.  We currently offer several programs through our organization including:

·

·Current Programming (eligibility based on grant funding)

  • Aggression Replacement Training- Aggression Replacement Training® (ART) is a cognitive behavioral intervention program to help children and adolescents improve social skill competence and moral reasoning, better manage anger, and reduce aggressive behavior.

  • Botvin LifeSkills Training High School program helps adolescents navigate the challenges of the high school years and prepares them for the independence and responsibilities that they will encounter as young adults.

·

·Past Programming (available to facilitate if funding is available and/or secured)

  • Strengthening Families-The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is a family skills training program designed to increase resilience and reduce risk factors for behavioral, emotional, academic, and social problems in children 3-16 years old. SFP comprises three life-skills courses delivered in 14 weekly, 2-hour sessions.

  • The Incredible Years- (Child Abuse Prevention Program)- The Incredible Years® Parent Programs help parents meet the social and emotional needs of young children. The programs strengthen parenting skills and fosters involvement in children's lives to promote children's academic, social and emotional competencies and reduce conduct problems.

  • The Positive Action (PA) program is designed to improve youth academics, behavior, and character. PA uses an audience-centered, curriculum-based approach to increase positive behaviors and decrease negative ones

LINK (Linking, Integrating, and Networking for Kids)

The purpose of LINK/LIPT is to improve and facilitate the coordination of services for children with severe emotional disorders (SED) and/or addictive disease (AD). Representatives from several child serving agencies in the community come together twice per month to help families.  We meet with the families and develop individualized plans to meet their needs.  LINK also hosts a community resource event yearly to bring together all of the child serving organizations in our community to network and collaborate.  This event is also open to the public to allow families to learn what is available to them.

Mentoring Programs

Mentoring is based on the premise that predictable, consistent relationships with stable, competent adults can help youth cope with challenges and steer clear of high-risk behaviors. It is an effective way to prevent at-risk youth from becoming involved in delinquency and also to help already delinquent youth change their lives for the better.

Family Treatment Court (FTC)-

FIT partners with our local Family Dependency Treatment Court. FDTC's purpose is to provide expedited, evidenced-based services to substance abusing parents so children will reach permanency faster, live in healthy families, and reunite with families when safe.
